The basis of the psychodynamic perspective is to understand what is going on in the unconscious mind. How we view our relationships, experiences, and the world around us affects our personality, our preferences, behaviors, and drives. The goals of psychodynamic therapy are self-awareness and understanding of the influence of the past on present behavior. A psychodynamic approach enables the client to examine unresolved conflicts and symptoms that arise from past dysfunctional relationships.
